Harnessing the potential of digitalisation – with data protection and IT security

Digitalisation holds potential for the future competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Small and medium-sized enterprises are therefore investing in digital protection: between 2013 and 2015, 85 % of them took measures to improve data protection or their IT security. These measures are necessary. One in three companies was affected by direct security issues in the years 2013–2015. At present, every second company sees itself as having sufficient protection. The requirements can, however, change very quickly. Many SMEs do not have sufficient manpower or time to implement these improvements. Data protection and IT security, however, require ongoing attention to allow the opportunities of digitalisation in SMEs to really develop.
