Heating Act: KfW presents funding schedule

  • Projects can now be planned with experts in energy efficiency or specialist contractors
  • Staggered start of promotion expected from 27 February 2024: Initially for applicants in owner-occupied residential properties with a maximum of one housing unit (single-family house)
  • Promotion for all other applicant groups will start later in 2024

From next year, citizens can receive funding for the installation of climate-friendly heating. The Federal Government will promote the associated investments through grants and supplementary loans, among other things, which are granted via KfW. KfW has drawn up a funding schedule for this, which will be implemented from the beginning of 2024.

Citizens can now obtain information about the specific funding requirements and details about the application process at www.kfw.de.

Citizens are expected to be able to register with their details on the “Meine KfW.de” customer portal on and after 1 February 2024. This is the prerequisite for being able to submit an application in the next step.

Owners of self-occupied residential properties with a maximum of one housing unit (single-family house) are expected to be able to apply for the promotional grant via the customer portal “Meine KfW.de” on and after 27 February 2024. A prerequisite for this is a concluded supply or service contract with a specialist company for heating replacement, which must be submitted together with the subsidy application. After submitting their applications, applicants will receive an automated notification of the acceptance of their application.

For owner-occupied residential buildings with a maximum of one housing unit (single-family house), the maximum limit of eligible costs is EUR 30,000. The basic subsidy for heating replacement is 30%. In addition, an efficiency bonus of 5%, a climate speed bonus of initially 20% and an income bonus of 30% can be applied for by owner-occupiers whose taxable annual household income does not exceed EUR 40,000.

The bonuses are cumulative. In total, the subsidy for heating replacement for private owner-occupiers can amount to up to 70%. In this case, the maximum amount of the promotion is EUR 21,000. In addition, a flat-rate emission reduction allowance of EUR 2,500 can be applied for.

Applicants who have received a commitment for heating replacement from KfW and/or a grant notification for further Federal Funding for Efficient Buildings – Individual Measures (BEG EM) from the Federal Office for Economic Affairs and Export Control (BAFA) in accordance with the new funding guideline are expected to have access to a supplementary low-interest KfW promotional loan on and after 27 February 2024, which can be applied for from an on-lending bank, usually the applicant’s regular bank. Applicants for the funding of non-residential buildings will follow in the course of 2024.
