The hydrogen core network is gaining momentum: KfW transfers initial funds for investment in the future
- KfW pays EUR 172 million into amortisation account
- Loan amounting to EUR 24 billion finances construction of hydrogen core network
The construction of hydrogen infrastructure is advancing. Yesterday, KfW made its first payment into the amortisation account. H2 Amortisationskonto GmbH, who manages the account, will then forward the funds to the 18 hydrogen core network operators. The overall investment amounts to around EUR 172 million.
The disbursement into the amortisation account represents the next concrete step towards building sustainable hydrogen infrastructure. The funds provided by KfW are crucial for supporting hydrogen core network operators in their construction phase and helping to advance the springboarding of hydrogen as an energy carrier.
KfW is supporting the construction of a national hydrogen core network on behalf of the German Federal Government. The conversion of existing gas pipelines and the construction of new hydrogen pipelines will result in a total of 9,040 km's worth of infrastructure being in place by 2032. KfW is providing a loan of EUR 24 billion via the amortisation account in order to help finance these projects.
