KfW's Board of Supervisory Directors confirms Stefan Wintels as Chief Executive Officer of KfW

  • Contract extended until 30 September 2029

KfW's Board of Supervisory Directors has appointed Stefan Wintels as Chief Executive Officer of KfW for a further four years through to 30 September 2029. The Chair of KfW’s Board of Supervisory Directors, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action Dr Robert Habeck, and Deputy Chair and Federal Minister of Finance Dr Jörg Kukies made the announcement in a statement following the meeting of the KfW Board of Supervisory Directors on 5 December 2024.

His clear strategic focus on supporting the sustainable and digital transformation of the economy and society has been pioneering and successful. I'm delighted Stefan will continue his role at the helm of KfW and, on behalf of KfW's Board of Supervisory Directors, I would like to thank him for his huge commitment to date. I wish him continued energy and success in the years ahead."

Stefan Wintels has been Chief Executive Officer of KfW and Chair of the Supervisory Board of KfW Capital, KfW’s 100 % subsidiary, since November 2021. Under his leadership, KfW has supported SMEs, private individuals and municipalities with tailored financing. Priority areas have been primarily investments in climate-friendly and sustainable measures, promoting the digital modernisation of Germany and expanding the ecosystem for venture capital, particularly in start-up financing. At the beginning of 2022, KfW adopted its new KfWplus strategy. His current term of office has also included the mitigation of the energy crisis following Russia’s attack on Ukraine.
