KfW promotes development programmes in Africa, Asia, Latin America and South-eastern Europe on behalf of the German Federal Government. It supports developing countries and emerging economies in improving living conditions and protecting the climate and environment.
- Further increase in new commitments: EUR 8.2 billion (2016: EUR 7.3 billion) provided for development programmes, of which 55% for projects relating to climate and environmental protection (2016: 66%)
- 40% of all new commitments for development projects in Africa and the Middle East
- Direct support for refugees and the communities taking them in remains a key focal point: currently 117 projects accounting for a total volume of EUR 3.0 billion
