Germany still has a lot of catching up to do when it comes to digitalisation - the Boston Consulting Group predicted that there will be a shortage of around 1.1 million IT specialists in Germany by 2030 in 2022. Although digital skills and creativity are in demand on the German labour market, they have not yet played a major role in traditional school education. ‘Around 70% of those entering the labour market do not feel fit for the digital world of work’ (Vodafone Foundation, 2023).
As an extracurricular learning centre, TUMO fills precisely this gap: It awakens an interest in digital, technical and creative topics at an early age and develops the skills young people aged 12 to 18 will need later on the labour market.

Workplaces at the TUMO Centre
All centres will be equipped with state-of-the-art equipment.
The TUMO learning concept also offers other valuable aspects: Participation is free and there are no enrolment requirements. A creative start can also awaken interest in technical fields of learning and create new perspectives. In addition, the young people have the freedom to determine their own learning pace and select the topics they want to study in greater depth. This not only personalises learning, but also strengthens personal responsibility.
The TUMO franchise concept

Information material
Standardised branding with stickers, lanyards and brochures.
Behind the innovative educational project from Armenia is a practical franchise concept that enables potential operators to implement it within just one year.
All you need for implementation is:
• A responsible project sponsor (e.g. municipality, private foundation, company, non-profit organisation)
• Financial resources for at least 5 years (e.g. private funds, public funding, donations, sponsorship, foundation funds)
• An operator for the TUMO centre (can be identical to the project sponsor)
• An IT service provider (can be identical to the project organiser)
• A building (rented or owned by the project organiser)

TUMO - the innovative learning concept
TUMO is a place where children and young people can immerse themselves in the digital world after school in a self-determined and fun way and develop their creative abilities and social skills. The varied educational programme is also free of charge for participants.
Read moreAs a future TUMO operator, you will receive a comprehensive service package that includes: the TUMO educational software, the learning content of the TUMO library as well as training and management support from the franchisor TUMO Armenia.
How big should your learning centre be? How many workstations should there be? What content should be offered? And how should the building - inside and out - be designed? The franchisor will also support you with all these questions. KfW also helps with the expertise it has gathered at the TUMO Centre Berlin.
Quick and easy: the implementation steps

Whether new or converted - the learning centres share a recognition value.
Firstly, a confidentiality agreement is concluded, then the franchise agreement is drawn up. This is followed by the set-up phase with the conversion or new construction of the centre space. The franchisor's architects provide intensive support here.
At the same time, the recruitment of staff (core team, coaches and workshop leaders are trained in Armenia) and the awarding of contracts (e.g. IT equipment) can begin. Advertising and communication are also part of this phase in order to make children and young people aware of and enthusiastic about the new programme. The next and final step is the grand opening. Thanks to the new TUMO centre, modern knowledge transfer is now also available in your region!
Why TUMO?

Katharina Herrmann
has been a member of the Executive Board at KfW since 2023 and is responsible for domestic promotion.
In 2020, KfW brought TUMO to Germany with the aim of finding further partners and establishing a nationwide network of learning centres.
‘TUMO is a convincing extracurricular concept that activates and inspires pupils,’ says Katharina Herrmann, Member of the Executive Board of KfW.
‘By setting up a TUMO learning centre in your community, you are promoting young talent, setting an example for equal opportunities and investing in the long-term competitiveness of our country and your region. Without private capital, it will not be possible to make rapid progress. That's why the TUMO concept offers the opportunity for private involvement.’
The KfW sales team advises and supports those interested in the TUMO concept.
